If you have a young child, where in the UK do you like to holiday and why?

We have a four year old that loves the great outdoors and doesn't do well being cooped up indoors. We are looking for a great holiday base that has plenty to do outdoors in the near vicinity. We are hoping to stay in either a caravan or use a Travelodge. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
